At the beginning of August, we had the opportunity to participate in the 29th edition of the Béla Bartók International Choir Competition , which was held in Debrecen, Hungary, from August 1 to 4, 2024 . This international competition was a great experience for the Amics de la Unió Youth Choir, made up of forty young people from Granollers and directed by Marta Dosaiguas. We presented ourselves in two categories: sacred works and free category. In the Free category, which we sang on Friday at noon, we performed a varied repertoire with pieces such as ” Vestida de nit “, ” El Guayaboso “, ” Nyon Nyon ” and the obligatory piece ” Cantate Domino “. On Saturday it was time for the Sacred category, where we presented works from our latest album Lux , including the obligatory piece ” Domine, non sum dignus “. We obtained a gold diploma in the Free category and a silver diploma in the Sacred category , finishing fourth in both categories. Although we did not get the ticket for the European Grand Prix for Choral Singing, our participation has been a very enriching experience. We were able to compete against high level choirs and learned a lot in the process. The trip to Hungary was the first since our participation in the Torrevella havanera competition in 2022 and since our victory in the Aegean Choir Competition in 2019 in the category of youth choirs. We take home great memories and a valuable experience that will surely help us grow as a choir.
